Why it's here

Not a demo. A paid, cross-platform desktop product with auth, billing and four tiers, built and run by a two-person founding team where I own every technical decision.

Peekly is a cross-platform desktop assistant for macOS and Windows. Press a global hotkey, it captures the active screen and answers in a floating, always-on-top overlay. It ships as a native Tauri v2 app with a React and TypeScript interface, backed by a FastAPI service. I'm the founder and lead engineer on a two-person founding team: I planned the architecture, wrote the specs, and own every technical decision. The parts worth talking about are mostly decisions about what the software is not allowed to do.

01

Local-first by default

Screen capture and audio transcription run on the machine. Transcription goes through a local whisper.cpp build, so spoken audio is never uploaded. The server only ever receives text the user has chosen to send.

That is the deliberate contrast with Cluely. Peekly's position is restraint: an always-on tool that can see your screen should keep as much as possible on the device, and be explicit about the rest.

02

Screen-share invisibility

Higher tiers can hide the overlay from screen-sharing and recording software, so it does not appear in a call or a capture. It is one of the axes the four tiers are cut along.

03

The server

A FastAPI service on Railway, backed by Supabase Postgres, handles authentication, row-level data isolation, conversation history and subscription state. Answers come from the Anthropic Claude API.

04

Billing and tiers

Lemon Squeezy billing runs across a four-tier plan structure with server-side feature gating, so a tier is enforced by the API rather than trusted from the client. Prompt caching sits in front of the model calls so repeated context is not paid for on every request.
